(GOUVERNEUR, N.Y.) – The Volunteer Transportation Center, Inc. (VTC) will mark the sixth year of its Annual Volunteer Transportation Center St. Lawrence County Golf Tournament by hosting it at a new location.
This year, the tournament is slated for Friday, July 16, at Emerald Greens Golf Course, 1485 U.S. Route 11, Gouverneur, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
“With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve looked at ways to shake things up and reinvigorate interest in our fundraisers, like our golf tournaments,” said Jeremiah S. Papineau, the nonprofit organization’s Director of Communications and Foundation Director. “We’ve had interest over the years of hosting this tournament at different locations in St. Lawrence County and we thought we’d give it a shot this year.”
Though in a new location, the Volunteer Transportation Center St. Lawrence County Golf Tournament will continue to follow a captain and crew format. Registration will remain at $300 per team, which includes a cart, dinner and tournament shirt. Skins and super skins may be purchased at registration. Raffles and a 50-50 drawing will also round out the event. Only the first 36 teams to register can be included.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the VTC will follow New York State mandates and adhere to CDC guidelines, including providing face coverings for use when social distancing is not possible. Hand sanitizer will also be provided. As guidance from the state and the CDC is ever-changing during these uncertain times, the VTC will also follow any other protocols put in place as well as that implemented by Emerald Greens Golf Course.
The tournament will take place regardless of weather, so no rain date or refunds will be offered. However, if this event is canceled due to restrictions put in place over COVID-19, refunds will be offered.
This event is underwritten by Excellus BlueCross Blue Shield, Watertown Savings Bank, Stewart’s Shops/The Dake Family Foundation, the Glenn & Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation and the Pratt-Northam Foundation with Eagle Level sponsorship from Benefit Services Group. Monetary and in-kind donation sponsors are still being sought.

The staff, Board of Directors and volunteer drivers look forward to a time when transportation to community activities and services is accessible to all North Country residents regardless of economic or specialized needs. But for now the mission drives on — striving to provide transportation to health, wellness and critical needs destinations utilizing volunteers and mobility management for anyone who has barriers to transportation.
